Blue Coat Products and Support

Blue Coat Projects

If you have purchased a Blue Coat Proxy, you know the power of the system is vast.  Most organizations that GigaNetworks engages only use a fraction of the offered capability.

Many aspects, including CIFS Caching, MAPI acceleration, WCCP transparent proxy, ProxyClient URL filtering for mobile users, and customized reporting have been implemented and supported by GigaNetworks Professional services team.

If your organization needs help installing, optimizing, or maximizing the value of your installed product, contact GigaNetworks and we will be more than happy to provide you with the help you need.

Proxy

Protocol support

  • HTTP, CIFS, SSL, FTP, MAPI, P2P, MMS, RTSP, QuickTime,         TCP-Tunnel, DNS, SOCKS, IM

  • Bandwidth management on all proxy services

  • SSL Termination & Proxy (forward and reverse)

  • Controls encrypted traffic for all users and applications inside & outside the enterprise

Content Filtering and Security

  • WebFilter continously updated by WebPulse cloud service for         malware detection and content ratings

  • On-proxy support of leading URL lists, popular regional lists,         custom lists, or custom categories

  • Strip and replace Web content, plus IM file sharing controls

Inline Malware Detection

  • ProxyAV integration with ProxySG

  • Choice of anti-malware engines

Edge AV

Scalability and Performance

  • ProxySG analyzes Web objects with ProxyAV at wire speed with integrated caching (up to 240 Mbps, 7-9 msec latency).

  • Dual cache intelligence with timestamps optimizes performance for cacheable and non-cacheable objects and never requires an object cache flush.

  • ProxyAV provides four modes of analysis with traditional object analysis, trickle first or last stream analysis, or defer scan.

  • Defer scan is unique to Blue Coat, it keeps long load objects like web radio and other media out of vital processing threads to optimize web gateway performance to detect malware.

  • ProxyAV provides load balancing and clustering of multiple ProxyAV appliances for enterprise scalability resulting in less hardware than all-in-one solutions.

  • ProxyAV can be configured to analyze both inbound and outbound web traffic for malware and web threats.

  • ProxyAV supports malware detection with Kaspersky, McAfee, Panda or Sophos threat detection engines.

  • ProxyAV checks for threat updates every 30mins as a default and can be set as frequently as every 5mins providing the most current protection, often faster than desktop updates.

Reporter (free/standard and Enterprise editions available)

Comprehensive Security and Web Traffic Reports

Interactive Reports Dashboard

  • Intuitive, “drill-able” overview of user activity is automatically updated as new logs become available.

Real-Time Reporting

  • Continuous log uploads from one or more ProxySG appliances provide up-to-the-minute views of users’ activities.

Over 150 pre-defined reports for tracking all user Web activities with analysis for:

  • Traffic Profiles

  • Spyware

  • Security/Web AV

  • Filtering Categories (URLs)

  • Web Content

  • Users/Authentication

  • Technical Profiles

  • Sessions

Scalable Performance

Performance-optimized design ensures rapid processing of even the largest logs, while minimizing the amount of server disk space required.

Content Filtering and Trend Analysis

  • Track users’ Web usage patterns.

  • Summary reports include access attempts, blocked sites, access by category and much more.

Zoom Filters

  • Dynamic drill-downs into comprehensive ProxySG log files. Spreadsheet style table allows virtually unlimited query flexibility.

ProxyClient

Protect Remote Users from Malware and Threats

  • Leverages Blue Coat WebPulse cloud service that uses a large community watch grid of web gateway appliances and remote users to detect malware in both popular and unrated sites, adding a second-layer of protection in addition to anti-virus software on the laptop.

Ensure Productivity on the Road

  • Minimize lost end-user productivity from slow networks, malware and frivolous web surfing with remote web control and application acceleration of up to 35 times.

Accelerate Remote Access Performance for Business Processes

  • Accelerate access and reduce bandwidth of critical files, email and business applications for all remote users. This enables users to work from anywhere with an Internet connection, allowing them to be close to customers, partners – or home – and still drive the business forward.

CIFS/MAPI acceleration

When CIFS was originally developed, users and servers
co-existed together on the LAN, and most network traffic
stayed local to the user. In that environment, CIFS works
quite well. However, two trends are changing CIFS traffic
patterns and their impact on the network. First, the
ongoing trend toward server consolidation results in
applications and files being centralized—away from the
branch office and remote users. Second, although file
servers are being centralized, employees are becoming
more distributed—often working great distances from
the applications and files they need to be productive. As
a result of these fundamental changes in workforce
distribution and datacenter management, CIFS traffic is
increasingly crossing long distances across the WAN. This
creates a significant performance challenge for today’s IT
managers for three reasons.

While this preserves file integrity, it also exacerbates WAN
congestion and performance delays as CIFS transports a
significant amount of redundant information.

Finally, WAN bandwidth is obviously far more limited
and far more expensive than LAN bandwidth. Therefore,
as more users and application traffic traverse WAN
links, IT managers experience ever increasing price and
performance pressures. Alloting more bandwidth to
solve the problem is costly and will still not help solve the
latency issues experienced by CIFS users.

The net impact of the CIFS performance problem is
unacceptably slow response times for remote users.

Depending on file size, WAN link, and other variables,
delays can be significant. When that “wait time” is
compounded across hundreds of users spread out across
dozens of locations, the CIFS performance problem
becomes a severe business and user productivity issue
that must be addressed.
